I'll let others advise on whether you were treated fairly but from my perspective (as a long time Plat) the fact that you're a Platinum member should not matter one way or another. I mean, how is it worse that it happened to a Plat vs. Gold vs. Basic?? It's bad for whoever it happens to so I'm not sure why SPG should be sorrier because it happened to a Plat. Just my two cents.
