The exit lighting, including those that illuminate the aisle if the aircraft loses power, are powered by a battery. And yes, IIRC, 30 minutes is about right for how long they will last.

I would suspect that more likely, the aircraft battery depletion was enough that it would require xx minutes or hours to fully recharge, making it faster to swap with another fully charged aircraft. Mind you, I don't know for sure.
Duh, wouldn't it be cheaper, faster and easier to swap in a fresh BATTERY than an entire AIRPLANE?
Maybe that's why I'm not in the airline business.
