Are Plats (or any elite) who qualify in late December out of luck?

**Did a search and found a 10/05 post on the topic. Hoping there’s more current info.**

I just got off the phone with the OPSC. Long story short I qualified for Plat (for the first time) on 12/21/06. I assumed I would get my welcome pack in a week or two or three. I really want the drink coupons more than the card but I’m also doing some International travel before February and would like to use partner lounges. From what I’ve read here certain lounges give you grief if you don’t have the actual card.

Well I call the OPSC and ask why I haven’t received a package yet. The lady stated that I qualified late December therefore I don’t get a packet until the 2007 packets are mailed out at the end of February? I told her that seems inconsistent and she put me on hold and checked with her supervisors.

Is this the rule? Do December qualifiers get passed over? I asked the representative if she thought it was fair to provide qualifiers in the other 11 months packages but to not provide them for December qualifiers. She admitted that it wasn’t necessarily consistent but there was nothing she could do because they weren’t sending out packages anymore. She also noted that I should’ve called on 12/21. I asked her do you honestly think that OPSC would’ve overnighted me a package or would I have been told that it takes 2-3 weeks to arrive. She didn’t argue that point either.

The rep was very pleasant, so no complaints with her.

Is their an official policy that if you qualify late December forget about getting a packet? Not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things but I was wondering. Thanks.
