Air NZ, in my opinion, has a mediocre Business Class. Sure, some people like the new seats (identical to Virgin Atlantic's Upper Class suites), but these days, the J Class menus have been drastically reduced and they don't even have the great amenity kits NZ used to offer. Other than the seat and their lovely cabin crews, Air NZ falls short.
I cannot comment too much about the J class in-flight service, but they have the seat in the AKL Koru Intl Lounge so one can give it a "test-ride". In Y however, the pitch is very generous and on the longhaul flights(777 and 747 only, they also have the option of Pacific Premium Economy which gives Amenity Kits, J Food Tray acess, between 38"-40" of legroom and a foot bar as well as 3X2 seating and on the 747 Pacific Premium Y is on the upper deck which gives that private/luxurious feeling.
