Well not specifically related to the question, my flights in JAL J from back last July 2006:
LAS-LAX-NRT: Got last row flat-shell seat. Still had full recline within the shell of course. Entertainment system fine when watching it, but had to borrow the laptop charging kit because it didn't have a full power system (it only lasted one hour btw because I was watching a DVD). Food served was definitely pretty good quality, availability for the menu items was not short as on AA J menus to NRT to/from DFW. I definitely will miss having JAL flying LAS-LAX-NRT, as I was able to take advantage of an award stopover rule for a free trip to Vegas before going to Asia.
NRT-PEK: No first on this plane. Don't remember having a flat-shell for this either. Food was decent, but the LAX-NRT flight definitely was better, as was the menu for the transpac flight.
PVG-NRT: Again no first on this plane. I also don't remember having a flat-shell seat for this flight. Some quality food as NRT-PEK.
NRT-ORD: Better flat-shell seat. Had full power system for laptop (as in using real plus as opposed to inverter). Had the selectable second meal along with the menu-selected first meal. Marginally better than LAX-NRT Service level was high in comparison with the other J flights on JAL I had taken.
Lounges: NRT Sakura lounge is basic, the good thing is the self-service beverage area for making the time go by faster. PVG lounge is strange in that it is on the lower level, and when they call you to board you walk to the gate along the lower level, feels a little surreal.
