7 nights in a standard room would have cost 42,000 points (7,000 x 6 with one night free). The suite doubled the cost to 84,000 points.

I have enough points, I will no longer be Platinum and I wanted a guarantee of the suite for 7 nights so it was a great deal. Most of the points come from AMEX spending - other hotel chains would have charged a lot more for a standard room for one week, if they let me have it during Christmas!
