My wife experienced a similar delay due to mechanical issues. Neither she nor I asked for compensation, thanks to FT, I knew to wait and see. Within a matter of days 10,000 Aeroplan Points appeared in her account.
I experienced an 18 hour delay on NZ on a flight from AKL, I was scoffed at by the NZ station supervisor when asked what NZ would do on the way of compensation. They did provide hotel, one meal and cab fare. I was borderline sneered at when asked for re-imbursement for phone charges for calling Canada to change arrangements at that end.
Typically, AC has been very fair to myself and my family when IROPS have occured.
I currently in the middle of a trip with weather related IROPS issues, it is a 4 segment flight. We have changed the last two segments to better fit our personal schedule, we are T+ fares, the AC phone agent did not charge us change fees due to our original and unrelated flight being IROPS'd.
