Exagerated a bit, perhaps. But I have personally experienced the SFO First Class Lounge dragons taking the responsibility upon themselves to police the entire United system.

I had a LAX service director/supervisor/whatever you want to call them give me a comp upgrade based on an earlier problem they hadn't been able to rectify. The dragons took it away stating that double upgrades aren't allowed.

They have been doing this for years. I told them once that I was going to avoid the lounge from now on and just board the aircraft. They told me they looked for this stuff in advance and would track me down on the aircraft.

I told them that attitude is very much part of the reason why I fly SQ now instead of UA every chance I get.

That was not the only upgrade related problem I have had at the SFO lounge. They are notorious for that kind of stuff.
