I'm flying on a government fare from ICN to SAT tomorrow, and the fare allows me to spend the night in DTW with my family. But, the government contract requires me to fly Delta. Right now, I am routed ICN-SEA-ATL-DTW-CVG-SAT. 1. Is it possible to use the g.ato bump to switch to NW in SEA and fly directly to DTW? I know people have mentioned before that it only works on domestic tickets, but I have seen several people talk about this before on this forum.
2. Do any of those people have any success stories?
3. Being GE, is there any chance of upgrading when I arrive in SEA?
Now, question #2 (alright, I can't count): The following weekend, I am flying SAT-MSP-SFO-MSP-DTW-SAT. NWA.com wouldn't allow me to select a seat on the SAT-MSP flight, and the seat map showed it nearly full in Y. KVS shows P7F4Y9 for flight 1634 SAT-MSP and P9F9Y9 for MSP-SFO.
4. Any thoughts on chances for EUA on those flights for GE?
5. Return is SFO-MSP 12:30am P9F9Y9, MSP-DTW MSP-DTW NS742 is P7F5Y9, and DTW-SAT NW1059 is P9F8Y9. Any thoughts?
Thanks for any help on these two questions.
1) You're required to fly the contracted route, unless there's a delay in the flight your booked on, in which case all bets are off. The good news is you can now keep the frequent flyer points. Once upon a time, that was a no-no.
2) For your second set of flights, I suggest checking to see if anything opens up as upgrades get processed --- I'd start on that project 5 days before the flight.
