I might have just gone when they called group 2 and pointed out that they 'forgot' to call the gold members. Remember that group 1 is not necessarily the front of the plane. You, as a gold, may choose ANY available seat on the flight. In fact, many gold flyers choose row 21 of 32 on MD-80s because this is the exit row. Hardly near the front of the plane. The Aagent probably made things worse by calling Group 1 last.

Edited to Add: I think this flight was a 757, you may have chosen row 33 because it has power ports. Who knows?
