I can't answer on south africa and dont know the hotels. But i did 8 days in tanzania for $1800 or so, not counting air fare which would have been another $1800 if i didnt use miles.

That was staying in lodges as a single, but on a trip with others.

so i suspect the s africa trip is pretty deluxe at that price, but as the above post suggests, the fodors forum can answer
