It is not pricey - it is a great deal if you haven't flown NWA and plan to do so

$549 for Elite Silver
Make the assumption you have no status and will fly 30 segments on NWA in 6 months
You would pay $450 for coach choice seats, so for just $100 more you get 4 world club entrances and 7500+ miles bonus on any fare plus First class upgrades

I did it as a gift for a friend and so far he has 2 flights upgraded out of 2 as silver= $225 an upgrade, I think $50 an upgrade is fine so he only needs 8 more upgrades (33%) = great deal
