I don't think EK has too many AUS specials (except on trans tasman routes and to/from Europe where the competition is quite fierce) as their planes tend to go out quite full. GF often has some good specials, and you can stopover in Muscat (which is every bit as good as Dubai) but you would probably need to fly to Sydney to catch the GF flight.
