This is slightly OT as it was a Qantas flight, but some friends were on a HKG - SYD flight with a 1 year old toddler, and their bassinet was broken. They asked (as did the FA) if they could swap with a middle aged Aussie couple who had an unused bassinet in front of them - apparently the seats were identical but two had a working bassinet in front and two didn't; legroom etc all the same - and the other (childless) couple just shook their heads and said no.

In the end the FA moved 10+ people around the cabin - all of whom were happy to move to help out the couple with the young child - so that my friends could have 4 seats in a row (two for them and two for the baby to lie down in.

Really makes you wonder what motivates people to be so mean spirited.
