Speaking of luggage, even though I know of the checked bags situation with India flights (as well as South America, Africa, Carribbean, etc.), I am still continually floored by what I see on those baggage carts as people wait to be checked in. As I stood in the DL line at BOM the other night, it was simply amazing the amount of luggage (both in quantity and in the size of those things) that each travelling party came through with....the proverbial everything but the kitchen sink.....

India also seems to sell suitcases that are bigger than anything I find in the US. Between seeing those behemoths and "everything but the kitchen sink" items coming along, I've seen extra baggage weight cause so many confrontations at Indian airports it's not even a joke. Fortunately, arrests don't generally come into play -- even when I've observed the look of "mutually desired choking".
