I finally got thru to customer service on NW. I won't express the full extent of my disgust w/ them, because it is your forum and your airline of choice, but basically their position is that if you aren't willing to pay the $75 fee, you are saying that the child needs no help flying. Therefore, there is no need for you to go through security with them.
