I have travelled with two (and once three) laptops in my handluggage at LHR and in the US.

Only requested by security staff is that each laptop goes into separate trays (although I have put two in one tray sometimes when security staff do not say anything.)

So
Tray 1 for laptop 1
Tray 2 for laptop 2
Tray 3 for shoes, belts
Tray 4 for coat/jacket
Tray 5 for clear plastic bag with liquids toiletteries
and the hand luggage itself which have been half emptied out.

Its no wonder the security queue is so long.
