I don't know where these urban myth originated from. Never have any difficulty even when check-in with my partner in a 1-King Bedroom at any hotel in Tokyo, let alone just bring back another guy to my hotel room.
Normally they prepare a twin room when they saw our reservation, but they gladly give the 1-King bed to us. Nobody ever asked anything, fullstop.
There are even quite a number of normal love hotels that accept same-sex patrons in Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Shibuya and Yokohama area.
Maybe I am just lucky?
