Yeah, we always had to have the "But when I fly XXXXXX I don't have to take them off!!" conversations regularly. Of course that confusion comes from rules being interpreted differently for different carriers.
As my friend AS Flyer said it was the FAA Cabin Safety Inspector for AS who finally changed their interpretation allowing AS to permit them to be worn, albeit powered off.
Personally I'm not thrilled with the idea of headphones (from a safety strandpoint only) during taxi/takeoff and landing, but on the flip side I'm glad that we now have the same policy as other carriers.
