You made out on this deal because you got the benefit of the 7,500 miles and you didn't have to pay the $15 phone fee, like I did when I booked my January flight in December by calling AA and just asking them if IAD was one of the destination citites, which it was. So they knew last month.

When the list finally showed up and low and behold Bangor was one of the cities I called customer service asking for a credit back of 7500 miles. The first rep said she couldn't do it, because "it wasn't available" and gave me a 2000 customer service bonus. I wasn't satified so I asked to speak to a supervisor. She told me she WAS a supervisor. I asked to speak with HER supervisor. I got another supervisor where I explained it is listed as covering January 1st which is when my daughter flew so it was in effect at the time but customers were not being notified. He gave me the additional 5500 miles but said that Citibank pays for this reduction, but he was going to give it to me anyway. We will be doing many of these over the next 3 years so I don't want to have to pay any more than necessary and this is one of the perks of the card. American Airlines came through again, and whenever they do I tell them it is the reason that I am lifetime platininum and loyal customer.
