Hi O/H,
The GM of the hotel is apparently going to give me a call back - SPG Gold was happy to authenticate me based on things only I would know, and they put notes in my account to let the property know it, but when they talked with the GM she was "recluctant" to let me check in.
My guess is that they're close to capacity and they'd rather deny me rather than walk someone else.
I left the GM a voicemail asking the status and have not heard back. If 5 PM comes around with no response, I'll cancel the reservation and make one at the Sheraton NY & Towers, where I've spent 10-12 nights this year. That will mean a longer car ride in the AM, but I think I'll have a better chance of convincing them that I'm me. And maybe the SPG call center could have better luck convincing them as well.

When I travel domestically, the only photo i.d. I ever carry is my driver's license, which I keep with my registration, so it's handy, b/c I like to speed. Usually, by the time I am at the front desk, I remember that I don't have it in my wallet. When they ask if I have photo I.D., I say "No." Number of times I have been denied check-in as a result: Zero.
