About 4.5 years ago I had booked a CE ticket on BA's site. It was the full fare (the most expensive available). My dad died and I called BA to change the flights since I had to delay my business trip and prepare the funeral.
'Not possible sir, but you can have your taxes back' [Not quite true, they charge £30 to return your taxes]
When I told him I had booked the premium fare on the internet his supervisor came on the phone and explained that the internet had certain limitations at the moment and that truly full fare flexible tickets were not offered. When asked if I as a passenger should suffer because their systems didn't work they repeated 'you can have your taxes back'. No exceptions even if a close relative had died.
I was 3-4xGold that year with BA. I had two other leisure tickets with Swiss and SAS respectively that I needed to change due to the same reason. Although I was Gold with Swiss, I was probably only Silver with SAS, and the tickets were truly cheap bottom rates. They changed the flights immediately at no cost.
