Kiosk Can't Find Res, No Human Available, Kiosk Finds Res, But Now Too Late
I was running a little late for my flight this morning in FWA, but it's a very small airport, and I got there ~30 mins prior to departure thinking "no problem." Went to the kiosk to print my BP, but it says it can't locate my reservation...tried WP#, Confirmation#, Credit Card...nada. I try again...about ten times, as the agent behind the counter is helping another person check in for a Canada flight itinerary with an expired passport, and her computer isn't cooperating either. So, I wait for her assistance. Then, I hear my name being paged over the PA system for boarding...so, I politely ask if she can help print my BPs so I can make the flight...at the same time I make one last desperate attempt to find my reservation using the kiosk. This time, the kiosk finds it...but it won't allow me to print the boarding passes because it's now "within 19 minutes of departure." The agent isn't able to get the BPs to print, either. So, the ruling...I get to standby all day long and try to get to my destination, or I can redeposit my 50K miles and rebook for a $50 fee, or I can get confirmed standby for $25. To the agent's credit, she did pull some strings to get me confirmed on the next available flight at no cost, which I appreciate very much. However, it's frustrating when the airline is so reliant on automation, and that automation doesn't work properly, and it makes me miss a flight I otherwise would've made with no problem. Oh, well. I realise I could/should have been to the airport sooner, etc., but even with my relative tardiness, I would've been fine if there was a person available and they weren't so fixated on the machines.
