one excellent airline not mentioned is bangkok airways. it's not actually a low-cost airline, but specialises in routes not served by others, such as samui-bangkok or samui-hkg (perhaps equivalent to the uk airline flybe.com). the female cabin crew are among the most attractive of any airline.

Strange to me how so many people praise Bangkok Airways. Maybe I just had a bad experience or just have different tastes. Many of their flights use ATR-72 aircraft, which is a very small, cramped, and extremely noisy turbo-prop plane, with rear loading, meaning you will need to be bused to/from the gate. Other than those, I've only seen Boeing 717's in use by them. AFAIK, they are by far the most expensive airline in Thailand, and at least until recently had no business class available. The FA's were pleasant enough, but that is not reason enough for me to fly them. The only reason I'd use them is if, as you mention, they were the only airline which flies to a destination I want to go to.
Given a choice, I'd personally choose TG over PG, even with an AB6.
