All airlines use this marketing gimmick.

US48 LAX-CDG stops in PIT on its way.

UA956 LAX-LHR is a 767 from LAX to JFK and a 777 from JFK to LHR.

AA has three "direct" flights from DFW to LHR, all involving a change of aircraft enroute: AA90, AA92 and AA100.
