Thanks! While I would get more miles with multiple connections, as you point out, I will be able to enjoy the experience more with NZ via LAX.

When I did a test booking on the NZ web site, it showed as 747 in both directions. KVS also shows as 744. Is this incorrect, or is it correct but there is a planned change later on? It doesn't matter too much either way, but the upper deck on a 747 would be a great way to get over there, IMO.

Assuming I fly once or twice a year on NZ in paid business, would keeping a membership with them make sense? I guess the big advantage I could see would be 1) lounge access during domestic US flights with NZ *Gold, and those one-way, one-class upgrades during flights to NZ (so I could pay for PE instead of Business). I usually fly over 100,000 miles via US, so I could shift some of those over to NZ to maintain status in both programs.

I assume you'd recommend the same on the 747? Any recommendation for/against the upper deck?
Finally, just to clarify - NZ does not have arrivals lounges, correct? So no showers upon arrival in LHR or on the return to LAX?
Thanks for the quick and detailed response - I really appreciate it!
