Make sure you make the last train home!! I got over-hospitalitied (eh?) the last time it was at Carnoustie and had to make a local cab drivers night with a fare of 4 back to Edinburgh. North of £130 IIRC

Anyway, the hotel is very good - some of my immediate family stayed there very recently. A good hot breakfast alternative is Cafe Camino, attached to the cathedral across the street.
The car rental place next to it is a Hertz, not Avis, I believe.
