How to work for an airline?

I have received a ton of great advice from this forum and would like to request the help of those who currently working/employed by the airlines. I absolutely love traveling and everything associated with it, and have traveled the U.S. extensively.

Now I am at a point where I would like to actually be employed and work for an airline, for the benefits of course, but also for a chance to be an employee again and not self employed (only) and for the opportunity of working with the public (something I do on a daily basis being self-employed). I have great phone skills, customer service and public relations experience.

Can anyone recommend the best way of pursuing such? I am thinking more along the lines of reservationist, gate agent, etc. I have just relocated and currently reside3 minutes from Pittsburgh International Airport and I have the time and energy to focus on such an endeavor but I am not sure where to begin the process or how to pursue such a position.

My favorite airlines (and the ones that I normally fly) are American, US Airways, America West, North West, Southwest (in no particular order).

All advice is very much appreciated. Thank you!
