If lying on the beach and sipping a mai tai is the perfect vacation, try Maui. Great beaches (well, granted the beach at Ka'anapali is slowly disappearing). Also, Kauai's another good bet, but the weather can be iffy during the month of March. The Big Island doesn't really have the best beaches, but the Hapuna Beach Resort on the Kohala Coast has a great beach.
Any program affiiliations you're looking into (e.g., Starwood, Hilton, Marriott, etc.)? A price range, perhaps?
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. My dad arrives in HNL around 4PM on the 14th and departs at 9:30AM for NRT on the 17th. So, while he has three nights in Hawaii, he really has only 36 hours or less to stay and relax. This is unfortunate as he must return to work in his clinic. I am affiliated with SPG and hoping to use some points for this as well (I already got him a business class award on UA). From what others have suggested, Maui (considering the distance from HNL) may be good choice for this short stay... if not staying in Ohau may be the best and the most reasonable choice.
If I get him a SPG hotel in Ohau, which one should I try to book him in? Any suggestions?
