This is part of the sad state that is LAX. If you arrive early, then you get one of the gates, but if you're late, you get the remote ones. And TG's flight usually arrives in the middle of the the evening bank of flights from Europe and Asia, so most likely TG usually gets the remote ones.
Even SQ is upset at this situation. When their planes arrive a little late, they get the remote stand. Even their spokesman explicitly said that they were upset when LAX told tem that they won't have any A380 gates ready for them. That's why SQ's threatening to put the A380s on the SFO-ICN route first instead of LAX-NRT.
