Not sure this impacts additional sectors. I would interpret this as referring just to changes to an existing ticketed set of flights. Eg if I go LIS-LHR-JFK-LHR-LIS it costs x, if I don't use the first coupon then the remaining routing will cost rather more than x. If I do LHR-CDG-LHR-CDG-LHR a few times, then (I guess) the fare will be different according to where I start, so if a change means I am starting in France instead of in the UK (e.g. changing an LHR-CDG-LHR for a CDG-LHR-CDG) it could cost less.
So in terms of booking LIS-LHR-JFK-LHR-LIS, the question is if you went LIS-LHR-JFK-LHR, but then bought a seperate BA LHR - LAX - LHR, and then went LHR-LIS, whether the LHR - LIS would be cancelled because you reversed mid ticket.
