I have to applaud the Hyatt Regency Vancouver for a great New Years stay. I pricelined about 2 weeks in advance and got a room for $65/night. I had stayed there before when my friend was an employee at the Seattle Hyatt and got the room in Vancouver for $75/night.

Before I arrived I faxed them with a double bed/high floor room request. Their concierge replied with a very nice email within an hour confirming the request.

When I arrived, check-in was swift, and I wasn't given the evil-eye that some other hotels will give to priceliners. The room (2402) was very clean and I could tell that housekeeping had paid very close attention to details. Creases on the bed were perfect and the magazines were set meticulously in a fan fashion. The bed was firm but comfortable and the modern-style headboard was lit with fluorescent lights all around. The shower was a unique experience - the water drops from a showerhead that's flush with the ceiling. The view from the room was a nice city view. The road noise was only loud when an occasional firetruck/police car went by with the sirens on.

The location is convenient. There are some stores attached to the hotel and Robson Street is nearby. There's a SkyTrain stop a block away and driving around town from the hotel is not too bad either. Parking was easy, and self-park with in/out privileges runs $24CAD/day. They do have $16/day parking but without in/out.

The hotel should be wrapping up the renovation of their rooms pretty soon but you wouldn't even know they have construction going on - they've kept everything tidy. You will have to ask room service for ice though.

Overall, if I'm in downtown Vancouver in the future, I'll probably stay at the Hyatt again. I was very impressed.
