You can't make requests. I can't. No-one can. Certain types of passengers can pre-assign seats through MMB - Golds/Silvers/OW equivalents/those on full fare J or C tickets. Everyone else can't pre-assign seats. You can only reserve seats at OLCI at T-24 hours.
I booked 2 x First returns on 25th December using an AMEX 241. I said what seats I wanted, I got them allocated and they are visible on MMB. I also asked if I would have been able to reserve Club Class seats if I had booked those, and I was told YES.
So no problems for award bookings from my experience (I am a Blue)
Did the OP ask for seat allocations when he booked ?
