Northwest Airlines Reports December Traffic
Northwest Airlines today announced a system-wide December load factor of 72.2 percent, 0.4 points above December 2000. Northwest flew 5.36 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) on 7.42 billion available seat miles (ASMs) in December 2001, resulting in a traffic decrease of 11.3 percent on a decline in capacity of 11.8 percent year-over-year. December 2000 domestic ASMs were adversely impacted by approximately 4 percent as a result of higher than normal cancellations due to severe weather and labor disruptions.
Northwest experienced strong holiday load factors of up to 90 percent during peak travel days resulting in December system-wide, domestic, Pacific, and Atlantic load factors of 72.2, 69.3, 76.9 and 76.8 percent, respectively.
