There are some recent Grand Mercure 'serviced apartment'-style properties along the coast that are finished to a very high standard, yet do not have the usual 4* services such as room service or even a restaurant.

So the comments above are valid, and you may find that Novotels stick to the hotel model while the Mercure brands range across seceral types of property.

In my case, the GM brand had a full kitchen / apartment model and 1- or 2-bedroom options, which may be great if you're away from capital cities.
