A play by play analysis: we are going to the St Regis Rome for a weekend tomorrow. I emailed them, as we needed a baby cot - my 12 month old daughter "decided" to come along, and also reminded them about an upgrade, as this was a special trip...
their answer: We would like to inform you that we have taken good note of your request to have an upgrade and depending on the availability of the hotel we will do our best to satisfy your request. Please be informed that the room upgrade is allways to the next room cathegory.
I have suggested they study their SPG materials, copied the language of the website and told them I expected an ejoyable stay.
Now, letīs see whatīll happen. I have a feeling that all their Junior Suites will be out of the upgradeable category, and I should have staid at the Hassler or s.th. else which is decent...
