It doesn't seem to matter what side your sign is on. The housekeeping staff just knocks when they want your room, no matter what time you are scheduled to check out.
On my last trip to Las Vegas the maid knocked on my door waking me at 8:00am despite the DND sign...I had 3 hours of drunken sleep at that point and had to checkout at noon and drive several hours that afternoon.
