I see.

Well, you must know that lebanese society is all about looks and show-off. So you really feel yourself much more comfortable if you go nicely dressed to ANY restaurant, even budget ones. For men usually a clean denim and a nice shirt will do, for women its a hard time. You will see lots of women in beirut wearing white pads in their faces.. its not because they were hit by their husbeand or brothers..no, they just are showing off with their new nose they got done. Some are even going out with FAKE pads in their face . so you will see lots of beautiful women all dressed up...
but your girlfriend will have enough to look too, i promise

ok. thinking about your budget then i would recommend you al balad in downtown area.
and for the bars.. go to torino express in goroud street in gemmayze quite early at 8.30 pm or so.. you will see the tiny place gets filled up and people will talk to you..if they see you are tourist here for the first time..they will kidnap you and do barhopping with you.. just ask anyone what they think you can do now..

maybe BEYFlyer has more ideas?

I am travelling with my girlfriend and we are on quite a limited budget. We are backpacking so don't have super nice clothes, but might be able to pick up some new shoes or something if there is some club or bar that we absolutely should not miss. We are both in our mid-twenties.

Thanks again for your tips ^
