There's some decent restaurants in Fremont/Newark, but the really great ones are over on the Palo Alto side.

I would not recommend the Il Fornaio in PA (IME service lousy, food not so hot, compared to the Il Fornaio in SF, for instance), but as
LIH Prem suggests, there are plenty of good restaurants just across the bridge in Palo Alto/Menlo Park area (15 minutes and $4 across the Dumbarton Bridge).
I live in Fremont (3 mins from the W) and work in Menlo Park, and it's a *very* easy drive.
Don't bother trying to find any restaurants close by the W on the East Bay side of the bridge.
