In my experience, the Pen is a category better than the other hotels you name (possible exception of ShangriLa which is peer of the Pen). Pen is full of hundreds of touches that depict opulence, starting with silk wallpaper on the walls of your room. The only negative at the Pen is its fame and a steady stream of tourists through the lobby and shopping areas, but that really doesn't affect guests staying there.
