Northwest to Serve Washington Reagan National from Memphis
Friday the Department of Transportation announced that a group of identified airlines would be able to serve communities in a series of phases within phase three of the re-opening of Washington Reagan National Airport. Northwest and Memphis are among the airlines and cities included in phase one of phase three.
In responding to The Memphis Commercial Appeal, Northwest commented, "We'd like to thank the entire Tennessee and Memphis delegation for their support on reinstating service to Washington Reagan National from Memphis. Their support, under the leadership of Representatives Ford and Bryant, and in conjunction with the airport authority, helped make this possible. Because we did not expect to receive word on the start of phase three until sometime in January, we contacted all of our customers booked to travel to Washington Reagan National through Jan. 30 and advised them that they would be flying to Dulles Airport. At this point we can confirm that we will offer three frequencies in the Washington Reagan National market beginning Jan. 31. We are in the process of developing our operational plans and will evaluate whether or not we can begin service prior to the Jan. 31."
