Mother, aged 75, quite some years ago visited family in Canada for the summer. Insurance, even a while ago, was about £200 for this.

To cut a long story short, fell over, broke hip. Hospital cost CA$75,000, plus repatriation flight back to UK and a whole lot more.

I know the insurance costs look large but the insurers know the percentages and what they are in for. Choose a major company that has an always-staffed response centre, without them giving the go-ahead to a hospital you don't get much done in North America.
