I did this in March on a German passport, and it was quite easy. I saw several Brits (and even Americans) around me who were also getting visas on arrival without any problems.

BTW, it not only worked at the airport, but also at the land border crossing coming back from Damascus.

Unless the rules have changed, there should be no problem.
