I think the OP has hit upon something rather important to the MR forum, though a bit obliquely.

Everyone is free to analyze MRs for themselves however the want to go about it, focusing on cost expressed in cents per mile of RDM or cents per mile of EQM or dollars per EQS, counting various bonuses (elite, COS, online booking, special promos, etc.) to figure those costs or not, folding in related costs with the ticket price or not, etc. As is so often said here, YMMV. But the variety of individual approaches gives rise to unnecessary confusion. Can some conventions be agreed to so as to cut back on the confusion and facilitate communication?

I like to know the "total" price of an itinerary, and when I see "all in," I know it is the total price that I am getting. When I see (price)+, I am on notice that there will be taxes and fees which may raise the total (true) price. When I see just a price, I generally assume it is the "total" price, but I am not sure until I have tried to price it out for myself. Most posts make clear whether the price cited is inclusive of taxes and fees or not.

"Miles" are a big source of confusion, as the OP pointed out. Is the poster referring to RDM or EQM? If RDM, is it the number of miles flown (BIS, possibly with rounding up of <500 to 500) or the number of miles after bonuses? If number of RDM after bonuses, then what bonuses are contemplated (status, COS, online booking, OLCI, special promos, etc.), since BIS may be the same for everyone flying the itinerary, but bonuses may vary person to person? Talking about EQM, not RDM? Or the focus is EQS rather than EQM or RDM?

If we had generally accepted conventions, like c/RDM for cost per mile of RDM without any bonuses rolled in and c/RDM+ with bonuses (to be specified) included, then we might communicate with one another through the MR forum more effectively and efficiently. So does someone want to propose "conventions" of this sort, and then might they be included with a sticky, with everyone encouraged to express ticket price, RDM and EQM and EQS, cost per mile or EQM or EQS, etc., in the same way?
