I beleive people have posted on here previously that they called CIBC when their renewal date was coming up and simply asked for miles to keep the card active. Can't remember what they got, but some did receive some miles to keep the card. Not saying this is official policy and it might be based on your annual spend as well, but can't hurt to ask them.
