In early November, I had a connection via DTW, and that flight was the only one of my six that week that had not cleared at EUA. I hung out in the WC between flights, and inquired about the upgrade situation. Learned that there were going to be 3 upgrades at the gate, and was told "your chances are good." Upon arriving at the gate after most of the plane had boarded, I saw only one BP still sitting there waiting to be handed out. Of course, I inquired if it happened to be for me, and was told "No, you did not get one of the Battle Field upgrades." So it was off to 7-D or someplace like that! But then after the door was closed, the Lead FA came back and said to me "You were the next one on the standby list, and we had a 'no show' so if you want to, you may move to 4-A." The GA had obviously told her to just go and move me up, if I wanted to move. Seems to me like a pretty easy solution at the last minute to fill one or two empty seats. While not the preferred procedure, it did get the job done. I was happy to sit up front and sip my James Page beer, the guy in 7-E was ecstatic that he could move to my empty aisle seat, and in the end I also got the 1000 mile PE Guarantee Bonus too! Win-win-win!!! And my upgrade percentage stayed at 100% for 2006.
