Both BA and BAA tells you to take a bus from T4 to T3 and going through security in T3.
When I came arrived on the JFK-LHR flight last week (at T3) and needed to connect to T1 (LHR-ARN flight), I saw a huge line with a sign saying 'Flight Connections' at T3. After a while I figured out that the line was actually two separate lines, and the long line was for T3 connections, and the T1, T2 and T4 connections line was very short. I took the bus to the FCC, went through a very short security line and walked to T1. I also noticed that there were signs saying 'T3 connections' after the security control.

If I take the T4-to-T3 bus, will I end up in the same long line (going all the way up the slope at T3) I saw when I arrived last week, or was that line only for people making T3-to-T3 connections?

Since the lines at the T1 FCC were so short, perhaps I would be better off to take the bus from T4 to the FCC, go through security and then take the bus to T3 instead of taking the T4-T3 bus and go through security at T3?

I have no status on AA or BA and I'm flying Y.

You have to go through security in T3 some place.
