This is not quite the same thing, but reading this thread reminded me: I was staying in a hotel once (can't recall the chain) and the maid was flushing the trash from the bathroom waste basket down the toilet. I guess she thought it was quicker. The first day after returning from work, I noticed a piece of paper floating in the toilet that I had thrown away that morning. The second day, when I returned, the toilet was clogged and when I called maintenance and they plunged it, up came all the trash from the waste basket. Obviously I complained about that and everything was fine for the rest of the week.
