You may be right for LHR-SIN-SYD, but I thought that BA could not sell tickets for GRU-EZE or GRU-GIG.
ONLY LHR-GRU, LHR-EZE and LHR-GIG.
In this case I think it is protection for fare paying stop overs - either people who stopover in GRU anyway or who have got the LHR to GIG flight and have to wait a day for a connection.
