Indeed, there is no need to get too paranoid about it all. Also, many of the cautions mentioned in this thread are less likely to apply when dealing with younger or more urban Thai who are increasingly picking up more from the cinema and satellite television than they are from their elders.
You may want to check out Thailand - Culture Smart! or Culture Shock! Thailand, although almost any good guidebook will give you the main points of polite behavior when in Thailand.
